One way we can use the social networks to advantage in researching good selling keywords is to search on Google for pages selling the affiliate products we want to sell.

Here’s an example… I am getting out the news about the prelaunch of Sqip.

I have searched Squidoo by using Google and the term:
site:squidoo.com + “web 2.0″

The part “web 2.0″ can be changed out for any affiliate product name or other keyword I’m interested in.

Once I have the search results, I view the pages including viewing the page source to see the actual keywords being used on each page. If someone has a nice Squid Lens and is selling my chosen affiliate product, I can see the keywords being used to bring search traffic to that page. Then I can compile these keywords into my own lens or web site to bring the same traffic to my sales button.

The product I am selling, Sqip, is a new Web 2.0 site; so I want my promotional page to rank highly for Web 2.0 search terms in Google. None of the first four results are selling an affiliate product, but here I have the top ranking lenses for Web 2.0 on Squid and there are over 7,500 results for that keyword. I can gather the best keywords from these pages for my promotional pages. I can also work these keywords into my pages.

The same thing can be done using Hub Pages. Search Google using: site:hubpages.com + “Web 2.0″ This search gives me 11,800 results and I can reap the best performing keywords from the top results. There is a difference with Hubpages compared to Squidlenses. On Hubpages, there are no keywords in the metatags. The keywords are called “tags” and are listed in the right hand margin of the page.
