Checking for broken links

By admin | June 2, 2008

I just finished checking MFWS for broken links. This was in preparation for submitting it to Google sitemaps. I used free Zenu Link Sleuth for this.

This is a program that you download and install on your computer. Then you open it and enter the URL for your site. It crawls your site and returns a report of all the links and whether they work or not. I was a bit disappointed with it this time as it told me that several links didn’t work (went to 404 error pages), but I could click on the links and go to the desired page. Other than that, it did a great job of showing me where my site needed some spiffing up. Then I copied a part of the report to use as my site’s sitemap page. Now I will go to the Google sitemaps page to get the .xml page for their bots to feed on.
